Halo: Spartan Assault is out now for Xbox One

Top-down endeavour hits the next gen platform early

343 and Microsoft's Halo: Spartan Assault has gone live on Xbox One a day early, as noted by NeoGAF. The console port costs £11.99 or $15.99, though you can get it for a fraction of the price if you picked up the Windows 8 version prior to 15th December.

I described the game as "a frenzied yet tactical, 60 frames a second twin stick shooter that's best enjoyed in pairs" in a recent preview. The campaign stars Sarah "Angry Eyebrows" Palmer from Halo 4's Spartan Ops mode, a lady who doesn't take kindly to alien wildlife - it includes the tablet version's free Operation Hydra DLC, which adds five new missions. New with this version of the game is a co-op survival mode featuring the Flood.

It's no Second Coming, but you should find it entertaining enough. Watch out for a review soon.
