US game sales rally as Injustice: Gods Among Us claims April top spot

Second batch of DLC characters and costumes launching soon

NPD reports that Injustice: Gods Among Us was the highest selling video game in the United States for the month of April, despite game hardware and software sales being down 25% in the month overall.

According to NPD Group analyst Liam Callahan (via CVG), this year's April launch titles fared better than those released at the same time last year. March sales were, however, massively down year-on-year. "Specifically, when looking at video games launching in March 2012, month 2 sales represented 25 per cent of the total first two months of sales, which contracted to 17 per cent for March 2013 launches," he said.

"One reason for this might be the decrease in number of new titles, which can cause sales of a title to be 'front loaded' with a greater amount of sales happening in the first month of its release."

Injustice pipped both Dead Island: Riptide and Bioshock: Infinite to the top spot, but doesn't intend to rest on its laurels just yet. New DLC character Batgirl's compatibility pack will be available on May 21st, and it'll feature a free Bane alternate costume; his luchador outfit.

Also coming soon is a Killing Joke skin pack, which features three Joker costumes from Alan Moore's graphic novel - Tourist Joker, Final Confrontation Joker, and Red Hood. See Batgirl, aka Barbara Gordon, in action in the trailer below.
