Xbox Live Gold is free this weekend, but not for the UK

Alas, poor Blighty

Microsoft is giving away Xbox Live Gold for free from now through to Sunday in certain regions. The UK doesn't get a look-in, sadly. What gives, Microsoft? Is this some sort of post-Thanksgiving patriotic bash-the-Brits thing?

"From Thursday, Nov. 29 through Sunday, Dec. 2, we're unlocking Xbox LIVE Gold in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan and the United States," Major Nelson writes on his blog. Congratulations, Kyoto! Woe unto thee, Birmingham!

I'm going to pretend Xbox Live's down all weekend in protest. With that in mind, here's a list of great Xbox 360 multiplayer titles that don't require an internet connection.

Update: This just in from the Major, via OXM reader Cokney Charmer. "As noted above there was a UK only weekend recently, while the US did not have that one. We alternate what regions are unlocked on a varied basis. It all equalizes out in the end."

Does it?
