Treyarch's David Vondehaar was on Reddit yesterday, fielding questions about a little game called Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. There's not much to glean - Vondehaar's quite the closed book when he's typing online - but he did manage to discuss the prospect of post-release multiplayer add-ons.
In particular, it looks like one of World of War's more interesting modes - War - could be on the way back in some form. If you're not familiar, War is a CTF variant involving no less than five flags, only one of which can be contested at any given time. Capturing a flag activates the next one along the chain in the direction of the enemy spawning grounds. The result is a push-pull territory dynamic which isn't worlds away from Battlefield: Bad Company's Rush Mode.
"No plans to bring back War at this time," Vondehaar began, but added: "Never say never. Here is a hint. We have a very War like mode, that isn't exactly War, that I would love to tell you about, but I can't because ... dragged away by PR."
Vondehaar isn't ruling out the return of Black Ops mode All or Nothing either - the gist there is that everybody starts with an empty gun, knives and a stealthy array of perks, unlocking the ability to scavenge ammo after getting a kill. "I couldn't say," Vondehaar, er, said when pressed for comment. "We have some our own new gamemodes we are eager to try out."
He had a few words of reassurance for those hit by the inevitable launch week technical difficulties. "Many folks are hard at work to get our online infrastructure in a good place. I am personally reading hundreds, if not thousands of posts, and monitoring the situation closely."
