All you Minecrafters, patiently or not-so-patiently awaiting news of forthcoming Minecraft Xbox 360 updates? Rejoice, for the gods are merciful. 4J is looking into releasing some features from Minecraft version 1.2.3 (originally unleashed on PC in March this year) ahead of schedule.
"We're considering releasing an update between 1.8.2 and 1.2.3 to reduce the time people have to wait for the new features," the developer Tweeted yesterday. Minecraft Xbox 360 update 1.8.2 is the next planned update, not due for some weeks. It adds Creative Mode, in which players have infinite blocks and the power of flight - read more details here and here, or scroll down for the latest material.
Leaderboard updates and Achievements will be disabled for worlds created using Creative Mode, even when you load them up in classic Survival Mode, so think again, cheaters. Among other tweaks to Survival, there will be a food bar which governs your health replenishment, plus the option to turn Player vs Player battling off if you're heartily sick of getting pickaxed in the back.
Enchanting, alas, won't make the cut, and nor as a consequence will the RPG-style XP system. "Yes, XP doesn't really make sense without the enchanting table (added in 1.9pre3), so we've remove XP and XP bar from 1.8.2," 4J told Twitter followers, adding that "we will be adding this and the XP system in a later update."
So what can we expect in 1.2.3? Tonnes, providing by "1.2.3." they mean "all the content included in updates right up to version 1.2.3.". Here's a very quick, decidedly non-exhaustive list: the Enderdragon, vines you can climb, a Jungle biome, glistering melons, magma cream, spawn eggs, children for villagers and zombie sieges.
