Battlefield 4 release date and details: DICE may overhaul Battle Recorder, VOIP, Spectator Mode

You don't need Medal of Honor to get Battlefield 4 beta access

Battlefield community manager Ian Tornay has taken to Reddit with first details of Battlefield 4, announced only yesterday via a Medal of Honor preorder reel.

First off, you won't need to drop some dosh on Medal of Honor: Warfighter to get into the Battlefield 4 beta, planned for autumn 2013. "There will be other ways to get into the beta aside from MoH Warfighter. At this time, however, it is the only way to guarantee entry."

Tornay also took time to address complaints about the game arriving too early, hinting at a late 2013 Battlefield 4 release date. "We've been seeing a lot of concerns about the pacing of release (i.e. "only" two years after BF3). I think it's worth noting that DICE has released a Battlefield game every two years or sooner." (Battlefield 3 released in November 2011, so assuming DICE sticks to the pattern, the next game should follow hard on the heels of the beta.)

"I truly believe that we're in one of the best positions to be creating our next title," he continued. "Frostbite 2 has matured, we've been gathering fan feedback like crazy, Battlefield 3 continues to expand with features which we can learn from, and we've got more data about how people play than ever."

Specifically, DICE is looking into fan complaints as to the following: "a better VOIP solution", Battle Recorder, Spectator Mode and "more robust eSports support". The studio is also aware that "there have been a lot of complaints about the UI" and is "taking them into serious consideration. UI is a big point of focus for us in BF4."

I reckon Battlefield 4 should be Battlefield 2143, long story short. Go on, make with your hopes and dreams.
