Max Payne 3 DLC: get seven map packs for 2400 MP

Rockstar Pass only remedy for Maps Payne

With the long-awaited third outing for everyone's favourite noir antihero turned Latin baldy just around the corner, we're hoovering up info like delicious, health-replenishing painkillers. As luck would have it, Rockstar has just unveiled a raft of Max Payne 3 DLC. Good news for fans of Rockstar's time-bending multiplayer

The publisher will release seven map packs from June onwards, catering to the game's Gang Wars, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Payne Killer modes, plus a variety of themed avatar items, multiplayer challenges and, just possibly, a few new game modes.

Rockstar has also announced the Rockstar Pass, a one-shot download that will give you access to every map pack as they come out, which can be bought on the game's day of release. The Pass will cost 2400 Microsoft Points or about £20, down from 3240 points or £27.72 if you buy all the packs individually. That's a 35% discount - not too shabby indeed.

Here are the details and a rough schedule:

June 2012:
Local Justice Map Pack

Summer 2012:
Disorganised Crime Map Pack
Deathmatch Made In Heaven Mode Pack
Hostage Negotiation Map Pack
New York Minute Co-Op Pack

Autumn 2012:
Painful Memories Map Pack
Trickle Down Economics Map Pack

We're most interested in the two packs that appear to offer new modes, Deathmatch In Heaven and co-op, but there's been no word as to what these will entail just yet. What we do know is that Rockstar is very committed to Max Payne 3 multiplayer - this isn't a bolt-on component.

Given the success of Mass Effect 3's similarly unexpected Galaxy at War multiplayer, this could well be the summer's surprise online hit. What do you think? Are you tempted by the Pass?
