EA announces Crysis 3: Crysis does Turok confirmed

Crytek to deliver "unparalleled visuals", domed cities, pre-order goods

EA has formally unveiled Crysis 3, a new instalment in Crytek's hardware-pushing shooter series which merges the second game's urban terrain with the first game's tropical flora.

Down for release in spring 2013 on Xbox 360, Ubiquitous Desktop Environments and the Sonybox 9000, Crysis 3 "advances the state of the art with unparalleled visuals and dynamic shooter gameplay." It takes place in the New York Liberty City dome, a man-made sealed environment which contains "a veritable urban rainforest teeming with overgrown trees, dense swamplands and raging rivers."

"Within the Liberty Dome, seven distinct and treacherous environments become known as the Seven Wonders," explains the blurb in what we imagine is the voice of the crazy prison guy off Disney's Aladdin (spoiler: watch out Al, it's Grand Vizier Jafar!).

Players star as Crysis 2's Prophet, out to punish villainous organisation CELL for its disastrous experiments with alien lifeforms. "This dangerous new world demands advanced weapons and tactics," the blurb continues. "Prophet will utilize a lethal composite bow, an enhanced Nanosuit and devastating alien tech to become the deadliest hunter on the planet."

The New York dome is one of several Nanodomes, high-tech ghettos constructed under the pretext of safeguarding civilians from the extra-terrestrial Ceph menace. "The citizens were told that the giant citywide structures were resurrected to protect the population and to cleanse these metropolises of the remnants of Ceph forces.

"In reality, the Nanodomes are CELL's covert attempt at a land and technology grab in their quest for global domination. With Alien Ceph lurking around every corner and human enemies on the attack, nobody is safe in the path of vengeance. Everyone is a target in Prophet's quest for retribution."

Crytek's boss Cevat Yerli describes Crysis 3 as "a thrilling mix of sandbox gameplay, advanced combat and hi-tech human and alien weaponry that shooter fans will love.

"Leveraging the latest CryENGINE technology, we're able to deliver seven unique themes that offer stunning and visually loaded gameplay experiences. We cannot wait until people get their hands on the game."

EA has also whisked the wrappers off three pre-order exclusive special editions. Buyers of the the Hunter Edition of the game get the signature bow weapon and attachments, the Hunter Nanosuit module, a level 5 XP boost in multiplayer, a unique bow skin and three additional dog tags.
