Your minds, sirs and madams. Capcom's Yoshinori Ono is about to blow it. According to Ono, Master Chief and Marcus Fenix were once slated to appear as playable characters in Street Fighter X Tekken.
Yes, we're talking about the same Master Chief who features prominently in the Halo games, and the same Marcus Fenix who leads the Gears of War cast. Yes, we're having difficulty finding our jaws, too.
Spartans in fighting games aren't unknown - one of Chief's female comrades appears in Dead or Alive 4 - but the thought of Mr Fenix pulling roundhouse kicks and knee tackles gives us the brain-sweats. That man has many wonderful qualities. Flexibility isn't one of them.
"For the Xbox 360, we were in discussions with [Microsoft] for which character to put in as an exclusive, but we weren't able to decide on a character because of differences in timing and things like that," Ono told X360A at a preview event today.
"So unfortunately for Street Fighter X Tekken, only the PlayStation family will be getting the exclusive characters, but it's something we wish could have happened. It's just too bad, basically."
"In terms of characters we wish we could have put in the game, Master Chief or Marcus Fenix from Gears of War would have been really cool, but it was just really difficult," Ono added. "We have Cole from inFamous on PS3, which is really cool, but that's just the way it turned out."
Don't worry, Xbox-360-owning Street Fighter and/or Tekken fans - there's plenty to punch in Street Fighter X Tekken without Marcus and Chief. That panda guy, for instance. How we hate and fear him.
