id Software's John Carmack targeting 1080p on Xbox 720

Because current displays "screw with 720p"

id Software's John Carmack has revealed that he's aiming for 1080p resolution games as standard on next generation consoles.

The developer's latest shooter Rage is a technical behemoth, spanning three discs, running at 60 frames a second and featuring some of the most intricate textures in the business. No great surprise, then, to hear Carmack and co intend to raise the bar.

"Targeting 1080P for next gen consoles brings pixel precision back to relevance," Carmack said in a Tweet. "Almost every display screws with 720P."

According to the latest internet rumour, Microsoft's next generation Xbox console will launch in 2013. Can you wait till then?
